It's not too high for my area. KBB quotes it at a low of $6,500 for fair condition up to $8,100 for excellent condtion. Those are private party sales prices. I made some assumptions, including XLT trim, long bed.
But that's SoCal where truck prices hold value pretty good. Pennsyltucky probably won't do so well. Rust???
Take a look at this thread. It's a long one. Check out how many 5.4L equipped trucks are currently running with those miles on the clock. I have no idea, and I'm not going to read it all to find out. But I would if I were you.
So I could not expect another 50,000 - 75,000 miles out of this engine without an overhaul?
I have been lucky and driven vehicles way into the 200k and 300k range I had a Honda I bought with 272k and drove it till 345k. All I had to do was change timing belt and waterpump. Maybe my expectations for the F-250 are to high.
It all depends on how well the owner took care of it. If he took care of it, u can easily expect another 100k out of the engine. I have seen v-10s on ebay that have 300 to 380k with orig engine. But not orig tranny. 4R100s dont last that long compared to other trannies. If the guy took care of the engine, i wouldnt worry bout the engine, id worry about the tranny and suspension compents. But if he took care of the engine and just replaced the tranny then i think ull do fine.
p.s. the guy who has this truck sent me to this website. We talked a good while tonight and he told me when we first talked that 80% of the miles were highway due to his sales job. Never been off road except while doing sales visiting construction jobs.
Yes, that's been obvious for a while. Hey, if it feels right just do it. You can tell a lot more about the truck than we can from here. A warm fuzzy feeling means a lot.
So, just go buy it. At least you'll be going in armed with knowledge that you might not have had before visiting FTE.
i would get an oasis report on it and see how well it was taken care of also run the vin # to see history and how long he owned it also if you look at the title and it is not in his name he might be a dealer trying to pull a fast one jmho
a lot of good input here and hope its keeps on coming, inputs here do help everyone learn about high mileage trucks, cause these trucks are lasting longer and longer with each generation
just so you all knows , it "was" my baby, and understandably there are concerns about high mileage 5.4's and the trannies . but its all in the care of them that makes the difference. I also have E-250's with very high mileage w/5.4's somewhere in the neighbor hood of 260 ish used as a carrier delivery , this is the third one to hit this mileage with-out any major issues.
that said ,
I did not baby it, but neither did i abuse it. but I always let it warm up for 3-5 mins before driving it , <---- maybe this is key to the longevity?
would like to hear from others that do this..and yea I know it wastes a little bit of fuel doing so...but all I know is that my engines and tranny's have not had any issues, aside for the COP's that go out and other misc. stuff.
My 95 F150 4x4 cab long bed lasted with the original tranny E4OD (untouched and worked hard) , to 360.000 miles and is still on the road today, and I sold her over 5 yrs ago doing the same work i do with all my other trucks..
I hope this is not coming across as defensive, just as adding more info...
Like I said maybe this was the secret?

F2504x4,
I am home after going through some pretty heavy traffic in Lex and lots of heavy rain and some freezing at that. The truck did great and I really ran away from my Explorer my bud was driving. I will not come close to putting the miles on her you did but will enjoy days out to the lake or hunt. My wife already has lots of stuff I need to move now for her.
