Edge and 2009-up
How soon do you think we will find out whether or not the current Edge will work with the new PCM's on these engines/trucks?
Could it be something as simple as a firmware upgrade or will Edge see a new cash-cow and say that it has to be a new module and you can't use the old one?

It will not work with it -- I can just about guarantee it. Every new generation of F150 has had a PCM incompatible with the previous generation. For the 2004-2008 there are 3 major revisions - each using more memory than the previous. Unless Edge loaded up the unit with much more memory than it needed (doubtful because that raises the base cost of the unit)... its not going to happen.
