New starter issues
2001 F250 diesel. I replaced my starter the first part of this month. The old one got to where it would not engage all the time. Should have rebuilt it if new then what I know now. The 1st starter I put on sounded horrible when it would crank. I was affraid it was going to damage my flywheel. So, this weekend I replaced it with another one from local O'Reilly auto parts. Still does not sound good when it cranks. Sounds like a GM that needs to be shimmed to me. Any suggestions?

You can also get them direct from international for a bit less money... The first one I put on was from the dealer, at about $225, and it lasted a year. Luck of the draw, I think. I replaced it with an international model. Smaller, less expensive (I think around $150), and spins that 7.3 with no effort. Been on there 3 years now.
