460 Build Up Questions
I have a 1976 460 from a Thunderbird that I am going to put in my 1979 F-350 4x4. I want to put some performance into this motor but also be able to run on pump gas (87 octane?). This will be a non EGR, non catalytic, and non pollution control motor. Should I look for early heads to bump up the c/r? I am looking for more pulling power but also would like to gain some horsepower. Any suggestions on the heads?

The early heads will get your compression up. Especially if you use them w/ your 76 dished pistons it should raise it enough to give good power, yet still be able to run on pump gas.
Then the usual stuff, cam, headers, intake..., if you can port the heads to clean them up some.
