Im thinking of building this summer. Either 24x36 or 28x36. Depending on what I can get for rafters!

With the building boom I would look into pre - booking some stuff like rafters, doors, and windows.

Luckily I work for Home Hardware! I have a bit of an in when it comes to that. Rafters right now is the only big thing to pre plan. Windows and doors are minor (but your right it might not be that way later this year you never know). My boss has 28' rafters in the yard that were for a job last year that didnt end up getting used, now to just convince him to sell them to me! Although ordering rafters isnt real expensive either.. $60-$70 a piece!

Build it twice as big as you think you need (depending on space limitations)...It`ll still be much too small.

Are you telling me size does matter?
I think the 26x30 or so is about max I can put in the back yard just the way the house sits on the lot in town. I dont see any point in building at the farm since I don't live there. And the ex got the 24x26 on the acerage.

A 26x30 is a very nice size but hard to do a project and still park mama`s car in it.....
Too bad you don`t live on the farm, too far away?

i'd be happy with one twice the size i have now. there's lots of room now for 1, so double would be about right.

Well the farm is only about 10 miles or so but I want to be able to walk out to the shop no driving put heat on if needed then back in the house then out for some work when warm. Don't want to to have to drive.

26x30 is pretty big just for parking. Seems to me that you can never get a shop big enough though.

Just parking two vehicles yes, but it never seems to turn out that way around here with welders, plasma, cut off saw, spare parts, projects, etc.
I have ''paths'' to walk around my shop, not much floor showing....
