yes, that is what i was thinking..Finding a 79 crewcab 4x4 frame is impossible where i live. or is there a year such as 90's crewcab 4x4 that i could swap with a little mod.
You can make a chevy crew cab work if you had the money or the smarts to do so.
What I am tryin to say is anything can work. You can convert your 2WD to 4WD by using a coil front end, and modifying your front cross member. There is more involved to it than that, but thatis the general idea. One route that I was considering, use the front half of a 4x4 std cab frame, graft the two together. If done properly by somebody who knows what they are doing (not somebody who just so happens to own a welder) then you will have a safe truck. I went so far as to buy the frame half of a 79 F350, then found a 4x4 crew for $400. That idea went right out the window.
better yet- find some body with a frame bench and weld you up some leaf spring perches in the front and be done with it. However, I have seen this done before where someone took an extended cab frame and put their crewcab on it and just modified their bed to match the length. Looks kinda goofy with a super short bed but keeps it a little more practical. My crew cab dually is good for one thing- driving down the road. You can't park it, turn it, or manuever it in any place in the city, these places just aren't meant for these long A$$ trucks.....That's why I bought the reg cab dually. Let my big ole crew cab stay out in the country
