Here's another timing question

I am looking at buying a Ferret Instruments V765-01 injection pulse sensor so I can check the timing using a regular timing light. I looked under the hood to see if there was any room to use a timing light, and I found that there was more than enough room. While I was looking around I noticed that the plate with the timing marks on it only had one mark for zero, there are no other marks. Is this normal? and if so how would you know that you where setting it to 8.5* BTDC with no other marks?

I believe you set the degrees on the machine and line up the "0 line"........

Let me see if I understand this, you are saying that I set the timing light to 8.5* BTDC and line up the mark on the balancer to the zero mark on the timing mark plate and the engine will be set to 8.5* BTDC?
If that's true than I also need to buy a timing light a little newer than the 1962 craftsman timing light that my Dad gave me
