Hey, KingranchF250, in regards to your Mack garbage trucks getting 6-9 mpg loaded, get back to us when you buy some new emissions compliant garbage trucks and lets see what the mileage is like then. I just drove my 08 6.4 CC 4x4 (Job 2) on the highway the other day and got 17.9 on the meter @ 65 mph on cruise. Considering the winter temps, not too shabby for a heavy truck with the aerodynamics of an apartment building.
Jeez man not everyone is getting crappy mileage not everyone is having regen issues not everyone is having radiator problems how many times do i have to say what do you expect to hear on here its a truck and suv resource if people are having problems and crappy mileage with there 08 by all means they will come on here and post it but lots of people have got decent mileage that have posted on here with there 08 and have had no hiccups at all with so and so many miles and many people do even know this site exists and are happy with the 08

Big Deal. Reading the fuel computer output while "@ 65 mph on cruise" has exactly nothing to do with the truck's average MPG.
If I could do it over I would take back my '04 6.0L Excursion in a heartbeat. My '08 6.4L CC is a piece of cr*p.
I bought my 2008 King Ranch in Mid July 2007. So far I've racked up 7,883/miles.
My driving is pretty much city driving, since I live and work in the same 5-10/mile radius.
And I keep tabs on every gallon I consume as a hobby.
So here are the numbers for my vehicle on its overall diesel consumption after 6 months.
Tell me why then I just drove mine on a 60 mile trip and the cruise was set at 73mph
that is 2000 rpms and I got 12.6? F250 373 auto SC short bed.
Why are all these trucks so differant? They should all be 17 on the hwy!!
I would agree with you, they do get 16-17/mpg on the highway.
I drove 500/miles to Vermont in Decemeber and 500/miles back.
Based on my calculations, I was getting around 16/mph (Highway).
So although I don't have long term data to hammer home the point,
I'd say the general rule of thumb for the 2008 6.4 is:

It wasn't a "spot" reading while going down the highway, it was the average after 93 miles of driving on the highway. And by the way, I get a little over 11 mpg city, and I'm talking real city driving (Chicago area), not driving through some little farm town. I'm sorry that you think your truck is a piece of crap, fortunately for me, mine's not.
I wish I could put my finger on it. I'm not doing anything special.
I just have a 4x4 Crew Cab 2008 King Ranch with a shortbed and a
30/gal tank.
On my drive, I left 12/26 and filled up. I had 5,830/miles on the odometer.
I was worried about finding stations that sold ULSD, so I planned my trip to
stop about once every 200-250/miles. My 1st stop the odometer read 6,079 and I fueled up with 14.776/gallons. My 2nd stop was within 60/miles from my destination and my odometer read 6,279 and I took on 13.133/gallons.
Considing I have a 30/gal tank, seems like I had plenty more driving to do
before I needed to worry.
In any case, I never stopped again before I left town on 12/30. So on my journey back home I stopped fueled up. The odometer read 6,454 and I put 14.997/gal into the tank for my 500/mi trip back. My 1st stop on the way back the odometer read 6,702 and I put 16.431/gal into the tank. Then my last stop after I got back to my neck of the woods the odomter read 6,982 and I put 18.003/gal into the tank.
So you do the math. I drove 1152/miles which was 95% highway driving. In that time I consumed 77.34/gallons. That gives me just a hair under 15/mpg.
So at least in my case, MPGs increase as I drive highway and decrease as I drive city. With supporting data thanks to http://www.virginiagasprices.com and getting a logbook of all my purchases.
Well it could be there are strong winds wear you live. I mean these trucks as much as I love them, do little if anything for aerodynamics, I mean sometimes it feels likes a box going down the freeway, and it actually feels worst than my dad's semi if the winds are bad enough.
No offense Tom but don't you think it would be better to find a GOOD mechanic than trying to ask everyone here what is wrong with your truck? I know it must be frustrating as hell but, a really good mechanic will most likely get it figured out.
All the #'s I've posted are calculated. I've found the computer to be all over the place. I'm real lucky to get 13.0 on the hwy. If I push it it will go to 10 or 11 solo. City (30-40mph) I always get 7.5 to 9 solo. That just sucks. I don't think there's anything wrong w/ mine or tom's trucks, I just think people are alittle opimistic and they don't hand calculate. I get the same fluff from my dealer here in Utah. SOme customer thinks he's getting over 20.lol Maybe at 5psi and 45mph for 5 hrs. haha
