Ok I have another dumb question. My 77 F100 has a lot of play in the steering wheel. A LOT. Kinda hard to keep on the road. Someone told me it might be the fabric spacer going from the steering box to the cab? Manual steering by the way. I think it might be tie rod ends havent had time to jack it up to see. I called autozone to check price, figured I would go ahead and redo the front end while I was at it. They do not have the tie rod end for the right (pass.) side? My buddy told me the right tie rod is non adjustable?????? Well I guess my question is what all do I need and where can I get it to redo the front end. Would the king pins cause any play in the steering. I have no vibration in the front end while going down the road.
Another thing that will cause wander in a twin I beam front end is if the rubber bushings on the ends of the radius arms go to pieces.
The radius arms come back from the ends of the I beams at the wheels and have big rubber bushings in front of and behind the brackets on the frame that they bolt to. Take a look at them. The I beam pivots should be checked out by eyeball too.
A suspension bushing kit, or a master bushing kit will have them.
The fabric steering wheel rod link could be torn, and should be checked out.
If you need to go into the king-pins I hope you have one heck of a big hammer and chisel around.
