How do you guys translate this stuff is there a book? Anyway can somebody ID this motor? I believe it was originally from a 78 f350 Possibly from a 75 lincoln. I know it was in the truck not sure if it was original.
Intake manifold D6-VE-9425
Heads D3-VE-A2A
Block DIVE-6015-A2B
I am not sure of crank number because it and the pistons are in the block. Is there any way to read the crank without puuling it out? Thats all I could find. The heads, intake, water pump, and distibutor are all off and sitting next to the block.

1st character = Decade> A=40's B=50's C=60's D=70's
2nd Character = actual year of decade.
3rd character = Car line
4th character = Engineering Division
5th = -
6th,7th,8th,9th Characters = Base Number for item
10th = -
11th character = Suffix or Revision
NOW,
In your case
Intake manifold D6-VE-9425
D6 =1976
V= Car line, V=Lincoln
E= Engineering Division
9425 > Intake manifold Designation number
? = Should be a letter Like A,B,C,etc
? = Design revision
A= 1st revision ieit could mean the
addition of a vacuum connection hole)
Heads D3-VE-A2A
D3=1973
V= Lincoln
E = Engineering Division
A2A=1 st revision with 2 more revisions after the first.
(I think)
I am not sure of crank number because it and the pistons are in the block.
EDIT
On the crank there should be a letter/number combo.that is visible by turning the crank with the pan off.
Is there any way to read the crank without puuling it out? Thats all I could find. The heads, intake, water pump, and distibutor are all off and sitting next to the block.
You also need to remember that D6 in D6-VE-9425 means the part was either first produced or engineered in that year D6 = 1976 so lot later built parts can and do retain that original part number.
The "car line" character specifies the first car line that the part was used on or designed for. The same part/number can also be used elsewhere. Lincolns were the premier usage of the 460, hence a lot of 460 parts have a V car line designation.
The "revision" code doesn't mean just 1st design, 2nd design, and so on. It also specifies the difference between say a 302 manifold and a 460 manifold that were both introduced in the same year for the same car line.
These numbers can be looked up in the parts books and microfiche that Ford dealers used to use. Used books/fiche show up occasionally at swap meets and on EBay, and usually sell for significant ca$h.
So are these heads and block good years of production? Or should I look for a earlier set of heads like 68-71 if so where do ya look junk yards? I would imagine theyre already gone.

Look for 70-71 Lincolns,T-Birds,Mercury's, & Mid 70's Pickups(usually first to go)
Too Bad you don't live where I do .
There are TWO 70 Lincolns with Complete Big Blocks sitting in them.
Right Now!
I must have the same motor in my truck, The guy said he thought it was from a 74 Lincon.
A book that I have states thath those heads have 91.5 cc chambers. There were 2 de-tunings, this was the first to 8.5:1, the next was in the 75 production year (74 people year) to 8.0:1. These heads with TRW pop up pistons can give good compression. If you want the specifics, email me and I will give you the info.
I am going to pull the mill out of the truck and put it in my 69 Mach 1 in a few months. I think it is a good motor to work with.
