the bedsides on my truck are torn at the front stake hole. also on the right side the bedside is fastened to the bulkhead by a cheap rusty home depot L-bracket that the previous owner put on.
is there a way to fix that without having to replace the entire panel, i dont want to spend $1000 for two new bedsides
I have rewelded a Few hiding reinforcments between cab and bed . As for torn bed holes etc. I have got panels from a junk bed (rust is ussually low and not high up)
The bed side r a inner and outer skin . So if not bad just fix them . Good luck guy
thanks.
the only thing is the rest of the bed is in pretty rough shape as well...i thought it'd be easier to fix the top and grind the rest of the rust and all. im starting to think it would be worth it to replace the entire bed with a used one. any ideas on how hard they are to come by and how much it might cost?
Well, used beds definitely aren't hard to come by...but finding a truly GOOD one is! I got mine for $150 from a junkyard, but good ones can go for something upward of $800. Mine was OK, but definitely needed work...the cab of the truck caught fire, so the front end of the bed was rusted, and the LR corner was crunched. I cut/drilled the front panel and the corner of my old bed off and welded 'em to the new bed. I still have to buy outer wheelwell patch panels, but I figure when I'm done, I'll be out about $250 or so...way better than paying $600 or better for something that's likely to need at least a little work, anyway.
Considering the number of different patch panels available, I think the only reason to buy a full bedside panel is for a pro restoration.
