Just to make a correction here, the coolant bypass filters do not go "in line" with the cooling system. They tee in to the heater hose on the supply side and return filtered coolant to the degas bottle. If for some reason you leave the filter in there long enough that it plugs completely you will still have full coolant flow through the rest of your cooling system.
I have had only one minor problem with my truck that was taken care of under warranty.
How does your Silverline sound compared to the MBRP turbo back? Did you also do the cat and muffler deletes?
I have never heard an MBRP but I really like the Silverline. It is a turboback and the cat is removed but I still have the muffler. The previous owner put it on the truck. He went with the 5" which I wish it was a 4" and I dont like the way it exits behind the rear tire ( might have pic in my gallery of exhaust but not sure). I plan on taking it the a local muffler shop and having the pipe cut.
It does sound awesome though, no complaints about that. I really like the cat removed. It sounds like a jet sitting on the tarmac and then in the morning when it is idling and revs to 1000rpm it sounds like a jet taxiing. It sounds mean as hell now that the truck is running the Ultra Comp tune by Spartan. Not real loud stock or moderate throttle though. Can't even hear just cruising down the interstate.
im not real familiar with diesels but what do you do when an egr goes out or injectors? turbo? these are all real common mishaps on the 6 liter but as stated before i dont know if the vehicle can be driven without these. a v-10 is a strong motor. the 5.4 is good for up to 8k pounds. anything above that your fuel mileage will suffer. it'll pull it but in the single digits. id opt for a 5.4 with 4.30 gears. lovely combination!
When the Egr cooler goes out coolant get into the motor and causes white smoke to come out the exhaust, I think, I'm not an expert on this problem seeing as mine didnt go bad. I mentioned to the service writer that I got a little bit of white smoke on start up when cold, and he just went ahead and replaced them. You can do a search for this in the 6.0 forum or just post a topic over there. Maybe someone will correct me if i'm wrong.
I had a 5.4 in my 2000 f150 and it just didnt have the power. There is definately more involved in owning a diesel but I dont think I could go back to a gas truck.
