Went to the houston auto show today with the wife, she wants to downsize from her expedition and I want to upgrade to an f250 with the v10. I have been doing a lot of research in the last few months and know what I want but the wife hadnt seen the 250 in person. well when we first looked at trhe truck the rep there asked if i wanted to make a deal, I said yeah with the longer bed and the v10. He told me they quiot making thise, so i asked when, he said with the redasign, I asked well then how come my local dealer is happy to order one for me and how did I see one 3 days ago on his lot? This guy represents one of the major dealers in our area?!?!?!!>?
we went and looked at a feew of the wifes options and came back for a final llok at the 250 as I realized a carpetted floor was probably a better time to ctrawl around underneath then truck than a dealers lot and another for rep came up to ak us about it and when i asked him about the nv10 he said " no they switched to a 4.6(no typo) diesel.
WTF?
hmmmm. It's actually not that uncommon. Most dealership salesmen have no clue about vehicles or have any mechanical knowledge. Most are sales grads from some school. I just ignore them when I go to a dealer. They are just "supermarket cashiers to me". I love it when you ask them a question about like the HP rating, and they just kind of look around at the other salesmen like they know something.
After buying 8 new Ford pickups over the last 32 years, this thread comes as no surprise.
It is almost a sure thing the guy selling Ford trucks will no absolutely nothing about them and this "flashy sport coat-huge beer gut" type of guy is just too lazy to read the brochure to even learn the engine choices.
What a breath of fresh air when we bought our new 05 Honda Accord. The nice young salesman actually new more about Hondas than I did.
This poor selection of salespeople is not helping Ford's bottom line and don't get me wrong there are good Ford salespeople out there...........about 1 in 100.

I could not agree with you more on the salespeople part. Dealers are a good part
in helping Ford go down the drain. The salesman are cocky, look at you like you are stupid, and insult your intellegents. I would not be surprised if Ford was out of business in five years.
Truth is, with auto sales so low, and the public having the resouces to obtain dealer pricing and information on line, not to mention the ability to deal with hundreds of dealers across the United States via the net, it is a real rarity to find a knowledgable sale person. Dealerships are comfortable to fill sales positions with warm bodies, who's only requirements is to be able to fill out the first five lines of a credit application and then if the credit check comes back as doable, show figures as presented by the sales manager. Sad as it may sound or be there is little to no time spent on educating the sales force. Talk about buyer beware if questioning a sales person.
We were at a dealership recently, to buy a vehicle, and the sales manager didn't even know what a carfax was. I showed him how to get one on the internet, then the!@#!@#!@# wanted my credit card to buy it with!!! We weren't there long.
