Question aod trans

does any one know if a 85 aod from behind a 302 will bolt up to my 72 block. i thought i read somewhere they changed the bolt pattern in the early 80's.

To my knowledge the bolt pattern did not change until a few years into the 4.6L engines. 302/351's should have all been the same through out the entire production run. The early 4.6L used the 302 bell housing pattern and changed once the AODE came out.

Now some time during the early 80's the balance changed on the 302's went from 28 oz I believe to 50 oz. You would want to make sure to use the correct flex plate to keep everything balanced correctly.

289-302 the same from late '65 on. An '85 AOD might not be a safe bet. Earlier models were plauged with problems. Read the propaganda on these sites. They use cores from '88 to '93.
