Alright heres the problem, i put a 4 barrel non-egr intake on my 302 and since i got 1981 emissions i need an egr to pass the visual inspection. I found one at pick n pull off a 460 and i welded the egr valve and port closed so no vacuum leak ( i would suppose). I got it milled and whatnot and put it back on the truck.... i have a bad vacuum leak that brings the trucks rpm to 3k and kills it. I am so fed up with this damn plate i dont even wanna see it anymore!
please tell me how to do it right
and second of all do i REALLY NEED IT??!?! i cant get an answer from you guys and usually have been avoiding telling me. If my freinds chevy 350 can do without it and pass inspection, can i???
Sounds like you're using a stock EGR spacer over and aftermaket intake flange. That's a guaranteed vacuum leak. The bottom of the stock spacer doesn't match up with the aftermaket intake carb flange. You need a spacer with a solid bottom to seal against the intake's carb flange.
well heres the thing, i welded the egr port where the exhaust gas goes in closed. so it WOULDNT leak. before that i bought a 1/4" spacer for under the egr. it worked but really crappy. i couldnt even tune the carb it was that bad. now that i welded it i moved the spacer on top of the egr because i bought 2" carb studs.
I'm thinking of just epoxy-ing a 4 hole piece of 18 ga/ sheet metal to the bottom of the plate to completley seal it off.
hmm well that wouldnt solve my vacuum leak cuz thats inside the vacuum area. I got some quality sealing gaskets from summit. im gonna try those tomorrow.
