hard to start after sitting

My F150 (87-straight six) had a problem starting after sitting a week or so. Its as if there is no fuel at the carburetor. If I pump the pedal in several cycles, it will eventually start. I sometimes have to prime the throat of the carburetor if it has sit too long. The previous owner just replaced the fuel pump and carburetor when I got it from him. Any thoughts on what I might check? Its as if the fuel in not keeping primed.

Thanks'

his must be a real early 87 the 302 was fuel injected in 86 and the 300 was supposed to start in 87 ? the choke is a good place to start turn the ignition on and pump the pedal once this should set the choke plate to closed if not on the side of the carb is the electric choke control it should have three screws in a diamond shaped pattern look at it it should have arrows and say lean or rich loosen the screws and turn to the rich arrow slowly and it should close the flap then tighten and try to start !If you find the choke flap closed then it could be a weak accelerator pump not giving the engine a quick shot of fuel to start !!Try these things and see if they help
