I would like to remove the lens from the instrument panel to clean the dust from the guages. Has anyone removed thier dash lens? Mine is a 98 F150 xlt.
Yes. And there is a lot of steps to it. Bull crap that you wouldn't ever know without a book. Go and buy a Haynes book for your truck and it will tell you step by step how to do it. Jay.
you don't have to remove the whole cluster to remove the plastic cover just off lower kick panel, panel around the column and panel around the cluster. you will then see the hex screws to the plastic cover remove them and pull off.
It's a very intricate project, and you will scratch the lense or break the "PRNDD21" shift indicator unless you drop the steering column, which in that case, I suggest you get a service manual.
Good luck
LAST EDITED ON 12-Mar-01 AT 10:52 AM (EST)[p]I just put white faced gauges in my truck last week and again I'm going to tell you you don't have to remove the cluster to remove the clear plastic cover over the gauges.
I put indigo white face gauges in my 98 EB expedition with the cluster in the truck. The way I understood your question you just want to clean the dust off the inside of the plastic. When you expose the plastic housing of the cluster after removing the cluster trim you will see the torx screws- take them off clean your plastic and re-install
Turbo, Do you like your white face gauges? Would you do it again and how long did it take to install? Sounds like getting to the plastic cover is easier than it looks. I know I've wanted to clean my plastic and maybe install the white gauges.
yes I love them and am going to install then into my 2000 f150 4x4 as well. You should be able to have your r/r in under an hour.
Just to remind you most of your work to do this job involves the removal of plastic trim parts and modular operator switches,*****
take your time so you don't break anything.... once all fasteners are removed a gentle, but firm pull will dislodge the plastic.
as for the headlight **** go to the autoparts store and look in one of thoses do-it-your-self books to see where your release is for the module.
I know of at least two vendors and more no doubt exist. JC Whitney sells them and so does the other f150 online site.
Expect to shell out around a hundred clams.
