Egt Temp

Question Egt Temp

I have a 01 F-250 7.3L. It has a 4"MBRP exhaust, SCT Livewire with EGT, and a K&N air filter. I am pretty new on the disel performance. What is to hight for EGT, and what can I do to bring the temp down? I have been as hight as 1200 but it gets there fast like to fast on the performance seting on the SCT. I can not even run the 1/4 mile time.

Usually people say sustained temps around 1200-1250 or higher are not good. If its only for a bit, it's okay. My understanding is the melting point of the aluminum piston is around 1250. As has been said before, you would need to sustain that temp for awhile before you actually melt it, but why push it? Check out the 1999-2003 7.3 forum, you will get lots of input there. Nice group of guys too. One thing you are gonna hear, ditch the SCT and go to DPTuner (www.dptuner.com) Either way, don't keep the temp up there to long.

It's amazes me still about truly how much trucks differ, you got to the 6.0 forums and it's ditch everything else but the SCT.
