Hello,
I have a 2000 SD, CC, V10, SB. I have a new Lance camper (845) that I use on it. My questions is has any one ever installed factory overloads or somtimes referred to as "contact springs" on the rear? This truck was ordered with every option for towing when new but for some reason does not have the overloads. I am using airbags and they work great but in order to reduce some of the "roll" I thought if I had those and they were making contact, it might help control that. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
When was the last time you replaced your leafs.. They may need to be checked if the roll is large.. Wondering if the F450 Rear Sway would work for your truck.. I know some of the newer F250/F350 are installing them to help out..
I never have replaced them and now that you mention it, they look a little "flat" that is the truck may have settled through the years. Is that something that is common? Thanks for the reply..
If they are flat than it might be a good idea to get them changed.. With the added weight the springs won't have much of a return rate.. Spring Shop can confirm physically by looking at them and measuring the spring arch.. I bet if you got some new springs on it should help clean up the roll..
How many miles are on the truck? Springs will wear out quicker if its constantly loaded up oppose to being stock weight..
The truck has 80K on it, very well maintained and no problems at all! I have had a Snug Top camper shell on it since I bought it. So it has had some weight on it as well as I have carried and towed (boat, horses) throughout it's life as well. I will go to a spring shop for sure, good advise, thanks
Yeah 80k bout time to go ahead and flip em.. Its normally around 80-120k when you want to start considering replacing.. If the rears are almost flat than I would guess they are done for.. Spring Shop will confirm it for you.. They may also have options too.. Look into heavier springs for the rear since you have a load on it.. Make sure you ask about ride quality.. You can elect for softer ride, more roll.. Or go a bit heavier and be a tad bit stiff.. Depends on your load.. Personally if I was pulling heavy load, I'd get a beefier spring so that my rear was stable..
Than you do have Bags on the back so you could just replace with stock spring and it should smooth out just fine..
I wil pursue going to a spring shop near my house but when you say "Spring Shop" are you referring to a specific place that I might be able to check out here in Southern California? Thanks again for the advice and quick reply!
Look in the phone book for a Spring Shop.. They are generally shops that specifically specialize in nothing but springs and suspension.. Might try calling an Auto Repair Shop and ask them if they know of a shop that does just Springs.. We have a few in Texas that specialize in it..
