I have noticed my truck drives very poorly at higher speeds. I took it out on the highway yesterday and at about 110km an hour (70mph) the tach was reading a little over 3500rpm. According to my my door sticker I have 2.75 gears wich leads me to believe it should be a little better. The the engine is a 351c with a c6 tranny swapped out of a mustang. Is there any problems you guys could see causing this?
Whoever did the engine swap, must have swapped the gears too. If that engine has been hopped up very much, you are going to run into some trouble if you try the change the gears back to the 2.75's.
Jack the rear of the truck up on both sides, and turn both rear tires 1 revolution while counting the driveshaft turns. If the driveshaft turns about 3 times, then you do have a 2.75-3.08 rearend. If it turns 3 1/2 turns, then you have a 3.50 or 3.55 rearend. If it turns 4 times, then you have a 4.10 or 4.11 rearend.
franklin- its really snowy here so im going to have to wait on doing that test
Im not positive its shifting into high but I dont think I could get to 70mph driving in second, Ive had the spedometer topped out but the engine was just screaming i dont think it could do that in second.
