Yes, it is possible and pretty common to use a manual switch for glow plug control. The most common way that I've seen is using a Ford starter solenoid or other continuous duty high amp solenoid.

Looked like this in the truck.
You have a new style system, the relay/controller looks like this.
To convert the new style system.
Remove the white wire.
Attach a small AWG wire to that terminal and route it into the interior.
Mount a momentary switch in a conveinent location and attach the wire to one terminal on the switch.
Attach a wire to the other terminal of the switch and run it to a good electrical ground.
Do use a test light to check the ground, there is a lot of metal under the dash that is not grounded.
Your wiring is complete.
To operate,
Turn the key to ON.
Push the switch for 10 seconds.
Start the engine.
