A friend of mine says he has a motor for me that I can put in my '70 F-100 Ranger XLT. The only problem is that it came out of a car. I know the sump on the oil pan is reversed, and was wondering if there is any way to use this motor in my truck.
Basic car/truck engines are the same, just some of the engine accessories are different.
Accessories, depending on the engine size, what it's going to be used in (manual or auto trans / 2 or 4WD): Oil pan, oil pump pickup tube, exhaust manifolds, motor mount brackets, and rubber mounts, trans mount and brackets...that kinda stuff.
If your swapping one engine size to another...more parts may/will be necessary.
This truck had a 302 in it that my brother junked. I'm just looking for a motor now that I can drop in it and make it run. The truck has a three on the tree, and had no accessories when it came out. No P/S, P/B, AC, etc.
the truck would have a front sump. people on this site said a rear sump will work also better for oil changes. I bought a front sump and pick up tube from summit for mine. I had to change my timing cover also to put in a dip stick to check oil level.
