If I remember correctly, Taurus came out mid-year and Ford still managed to sell over 33,000 of them.

That's what I thought they were talking about at first. That's what we used to say about Fords in the mid to late 80's.

It wasn't so funny either as my three 80's Ford trucks were the worst vehicles I've ever owned so far.

They've never had a complete redesign on the Ranger I don't think? Body changed early 90 and a few up dates after that.
They don't care about the sales of the ranger any ways. The entire small truck segment as shrunk by a whole buch since 2000 and continues.

At what point might the small truck segment pick up again, $4 gasoline, $5? TATA will not bring the Nano car to the US, but what if they bring small trucks, right after the big 2.5 decide to drop them altogether? They will be caught "behind the curve" once again.

I can't figure out how ford could let the little ranger fall so far behind. A compact pickup should be getting 25mpg not 14 city 17 highway like the ranger.

GM switches a lot with trucks.... BS 01-02 BS03-05 (With 04 being a different diesel engine) 06 received a body style engine and tranny change. 08 MY came with another change in both motor and body. 2010MY is slated for another change in the frame if not the body also. A huge overhaul on the motor, and who knows what's in store for the tranny. CVT? Talk about switch..... and switch and switch. LOL By the time you can get a good buy on a new truck, the next redesign will be coming out.

Im sure not to fond off the new GM trucks though. They just dont appeal to me. I cant put my funger on it though. Ford has the best looking trucks on the road as off now. Something turns me off on the new GM trucks.

Im just glad they got rid of the fake wood! The 1988 Ranger XLT had that horrid fake burl walnut, trimmed with fake metal (chromed hard plastic). Who did they think they were fooling? Plain real plastic looks much better to me.
