Smile Replace Backup Lights

Hello all,
I replaced my stock backup light bulbs with the halogen's 3156 that JCW sells.
I was hopping for a big improvment. I guess my hopes were to high. A little better but not enought.

Are the 55W bulbs in fog/driving lights brighter than the 3156 replacment bulbs?
Has anyone replaced the bulb and socket with a 55W halogen, similar to the ones in fog/drivings lights? I know I will have upgrade the wiring and added relay? Has anybody tried this?

I have been looking at adding some backup/work lights under the bumper and may still do that.

I would like to get more light from the stock location if I can.
Using these for the tail lights with a upgrade backup bulb setup.

On a different thought,
I was thinking about doing the same thing with my 3rd brake light and wire
it to the backup light. (Just the cargo lights)

Thank you for any info. Norm

Only adding additional lights will make a big difference.

Here is a thread that uses a system with a relay.
I used this set up on my 07 Explorer, it will work with any truck and any type of light.

THE INSTALL info is in the first couple of post, you do not have to read the whole thread. Most of it is just babble.

Only one wire needs to be run from the front of the truck to the back relay.
You can eliminate the switch too.

Thanks Darren,
You dont think that upgrading the bulbs will make a difference. I know that adding more lights under the bumper will work and I still may do that.

I was also thinking that changing the bulbs/sockets in the stock locations to say a H3. Two on the tail lights and two in the cargo lights. You could still wire the cargo lights to come on with the inside lights using a relay.
It may be more work than its worth but it would be a nice clean install.
Has anybody tried it and how did good did it work?
(Not worth the trouble and just add extra lights?)

Ok, I removed the 3rd brake/cargo light. Amazing how brittle plastic gets in the Fl. sun for 10 years. Well there is not enough room behind the light to do anything like an adaptor to a different bulb type. I'm not saying you cant use a H3 bulb there. What ever bulb you do use cant stick out far from the light with out needing to punch holes in the back of the cab.
I think it would have been nice to have some bright lights their but I dont see it happening.
