I did take it to the dealer at home 10 days ago for an oil leak and they replaced two lines from the pan that were broke and they said everything was all good.By the way my truck is a 6.4 crew cab lb xlt.
It sounds like your getting good service from the dealer where your truck is at. Be sure and quiz him as to what went wrong. It seems odd that the motor would die 10 days after having something fixed. Make sure there's no possibilty your problems are related to any work done by your local dealer. If there is you might need to find a new local dealer.
If your truck has always had less power than your buddies 7.3 he's either got some good mods on that truck, or you've had a problem with your engine for a while.
Hello All.I just got in since I lost alot of time on monday.I did find out what the cause of the failure was.I stopped at the dealer today and spoke with my mechanic. He said that the #5 injector failed and was dumping too much fuel in the cylinder and caused the oil to break down and caused thermal breakdown. This actually makes me feel better since it was a bad injector not a bad engine.
To the question about if I used the heater on that morning the answer is no.I did not det the plug it in I do not have the cord. Also Ford says I dont need it until -10 so I didn't worry about it.

Did it only score cylinder 5 or is there progressive damage as a result?

Hunter: I am quoting from an earlier post of yours. Let me float this idea. A technician fixed your leak. SIMPLE. WRONG. My bet is that when he fixed your leak he had to remove or loosen a fuel line. The fuel lines on the 6.4 are single use. There are no seals, except that they seal when you install. Thus, if an inexperienced technician did not replace the fuel line he very well could have created the problem. I am sure you will not be able to prove or disprove as the tech will not fess up, but maybe inquire for peace of mind.
these engines are ready to work in a few miles. todas rings are seated in within 50 miles. anthing can fail. did not one of ou notice that he hasent forund out what failed? it sure sounds like it may have droped a valve.one engine goes bad, my God, now fords 6.4s are no good,,the guy didnt break it in rite! he drove it home to fast when he bought it! his mother-in-law breathed on it!
