Slow fuel fill

My gas tank takes forever to fill. I saw on here awhile back that the hose going from the fill tube to the tank is sometimes going slightly up hill. I just looked under mine and my hose looks like it shrunk right after the fill tube. It's shrunk in such a way that it creates a little dam. I think this is my problem. My question. Is the tube 2" ID striaght hose? (The outside end is) It kind of looks like a shaped hose. Maybe a differnt size inside (tank side) end. I hope not. I'm going to try to fix it. I would be nice to know in advance. I know its a pain to get off. I've had it off before.

The filler hose has an inner, plastic vent tube that often gets kinked, causing problems filling up. I have a pic posted in a previous thread, as well as at my supermotors.org site, JSM84

Mine no longer has the inner vent tube. it was removed when I changed to a larger tank. My tank has a seperate vent. I had this same tank on my 88' Bronco and it worked good. Thats why I didnt understand why it fills so slow on this truck. Now I'm sure this hose is the problem. (I didnt swap it when I did the tank)

It doesn’t matter if the tank has a separate vent you still need the inner tube to prevent backflow and damming. Without it or with it incorrectly installed the tank takes all day to fill.

The instructions with the tank said to remove it. In any case, I took the hose off to change it. Of course the fill tube is 2" ID and the tank is 2 1/4". (I had a length of 2") So I turned the hose about 90 degrees so the shrunk section was on the side instead of on the bottom. It improved it considerbly! Next I'm going to get a 2 1/4" hose. (I'm going to choke it down with a clamp) I'll keep you informed.

I had the same problem. I noticed with mine the fill tube was pretty much horizontal not allowing the fuel to drain into the tank as quick as the pump was dispensing it. My solution came when I remove my front leveling springs, my front end was always sitting higher than the rear. Now with the front lower (back to stock) it seems to be fine.

Update. I got a length of 2 1/4" hose. (about a foot) I put about 2" of 2" hose on the filler tube. (it is all on the tube) Then I put the 2 1/4" hose from the tank to the filler. (The outside OD of the 2" is about the same as the inside of the 2 1/4".)

Report: Before I did anything, it took about 6 minutes to fill 10 gallons. (On a forty gallon tank you can see my problem)
After this mod it takes about 1 1/2 minutes to fill 10 gallons. I still cant fill at the highest pump speed, but I can live with this.
