hi, Im kinda new to all this stuff but here it goes. Ive got a 79 250 with a 351M in it. I know im a moron but i had my truck in my (insulated) garage and it froze up on me. busted out a freeze plug on riders side, fixed it and didnt get it started for 1 minute and notice one on the drivers side is out. what should i do? pull motor and replace all of them or just this next one and see what happens. This is just an old truck i drive from house to the farm, no daily driver or anything. thanks Jared
Are you running straight water? That is a big problem in cold climates. You will always pop plugs, but worse things can happen as the water expands as it freezes. Do you have a block heater installed in one of those plug holes? Leaving it plugged in when really cold will prevent freeze ups, but you still need more coolant concentration by the sound of it.
I have installed them without sealant, but I cleaned the holes up well with a sanding drum on a dremel tool, in case there were nicks or corrosion.
Some guys use red Loctite, some use a Permatex sealant, some use aircraft gasket positioner, etc. Use what you have that is similar to these for some peace of mind.
