I have recently purchased a 1999 F150 Lariat Super Cab 4x4 (5.4, 4R70W) that was a company vehicle for my employer. Was in the process of going through it, fixin little stuff, when I came across a small screw-on type filter just forward of the front driver's side wheel, just inside the plastic.
Wow, seems like such an "unprotected" spot for any kind of filter (much less an oil filter) in a 4X4 vehicle.
Guess I assumed that it was on the block somewhere....
Forgive me.....it's my first Triton...
Maybe thats why this truck has a lot of gunk around that part of the frame. You know, the kinda of stuff that used to build up on older vehicles behind the motor and tranny.
Thank You for the info.

Reason: spelling
It seems unprotected where they mounted the filter but if you think about what kind of impact it would take and the damage it would do to your truck to get to the filter it is safe to say that if the filter gets damaged your truck is pretty much dead anyway.
