Are there many dangers in buying a used programmer or tuner from a private buyer? Do they wear out or anything? I'm thinkin its much smarter to buy new, but they can get kind of expensive. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I bought a used evolution and sent it back to edge to be up dated. In my opinion it can't be beat for the money I paid. I gave $50 for the programmer and $15 for shipping. Not bad for a $400 programmer. Go used if the price is right and you find one you want.
i bought a used superchip. but the company charged $100 to reprogram it. it still comes out cheaper just be carefull how much you buy it for inthe first place.
I have a superchip I'm willing to sell if your interested. once a superchip is uninstalled from a truck its good to go in another truck without a problem. if i would have known this before i bought it i would have gotten it used.
be careful when buying a used programmer. especially from ebay. i dont have one but from what i was told by a friend, they are designed so that if the "tuning" is not undone from the original truck, then the stock programming is what will be in the programmer. i assume that is so you cant share the programmer. i could see some jerk trying to pawn his off with stock programming in it. that's just what i heard. i know someone here knows if this is true and i am interested to hear if it is or not
Yes this can happen, But that is when you send it back to the manufacture and they re program it. If you are buying from e-BAY ask alot of questions. Make sure you don't pay so much that when you send it bak you are spending more than a new one.

once the programer is installed in a truck it recgonizes the vin and will not be able to communicate with the vin of any other truck. so you wolnt even be able to get stock tunes off of a superchip someone sold to you used, you would just get an error message. however once the programmer is un-installed you can use it on any truck it is compatable with. in my case my programmer will work on any 1994-2003 7.3L PSD. Thats the way superchips work atleast.
