Possible Seal bad????
I noticed the other day while cleaning my truck and it seems that there is a black rubber ring that moves around where the end of the front axle. Ill try and get pictures durring the day. If its a problem should i just replace my ball joints if i have to replace stuff? any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I have an 01 and both axles right now have that black rubber ring that moves around where the end of the front axle is. I believe it is a dust seal for the front hub and part of it has come off. I am going to pull the front hub apart so I can replace them along with the orings and clean the needle bearings. I do not believe it has anything to do with ball joints.

if it's on the inner side towards the axle housing it's the dust seal for the axle,if it's out towards the wheel it's the knuckle seal,either way if your gonna tear things apart I would replace both of those seals,the dust seal is gravy but the knuckle seal is a real pain to get on the axle unless you buy or make a driver for it.ball joints are up to you if they are tight you could leave them in and just put grease fittings in them or replace them with moog greasable ball joints.
