oil question
i just switched to it in my 2000 V10, but it has 92,000 miles on it and has always had dino oil used up to this point...
is there any reason to not switch to the mobil-1 5W30 now???
So,................ what exactly makes royal purple better? More expensive better lubricity, more stable at operating temps.............?
I switched my V10 to Mobil1 5W20 at 15,000 miles. When I did I got a small leak for maybe 2-3 days then it stopped. I now have 34,000 on her and I've never seen any leaks and you KNOW I work her HARD!
I guess...don't be surprised if you have a leak for a little while depending on how many miles you have.
I tow like you do...and I have been very happy with the Mobil1. Are you sure your manual calls for 5W30?...my 2005 calls for 5w20...that's all.
With the RPMs I run pulling grades...at 17,000#'s combined...I have no complaints with the Mobil1.
Good luck!
joe.
my manual calls for 5-30 but I did read somewhere they lowered the recommendation to 5-20 to improve fuel consumption... but I already had the 5-30 and thought that would be ok (here in warm south FL)...
I have never switched a higher mileage motor (92,000+) to synthetic before though and after I did it, I wondered if maybe that would be a issue...
I wouldn't think so, but thought I would see what everyone else thought...
as for the quality of the oil, all I know is my other TV has 187,000+ on it never had covers or pan off, still carries good compression and we cameraed inside the motor and it looks like it a new motor on the screen, very clean...
I do change it every 3,000 to 4,000 and have been told many times I was wasting my money, but I can't argue with the results...
hey, I think I heard or read somewhere you were in the hospital... hope all is well, and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers...

our towing weights are almost identical, and i am doing just fine with only the hellwig so far... but it does need just a little more rear end help, so i will install the RAS sometime soon... i need new tires first though... on the TT and the TV...

After I figured out my over pressure in my tire issue was causing most of my handling issues...DOH...
I've never really felt the 'rear-steer' others complain about. I felt PUSHING from the 1100-1200# of tongue...with the RAS I no longer feel that pushing much if at all...
BUT what I couldn't ignore was the unacceptable rear sagging when loaded even WITH WD applied thru 1400# BARS!!!...the RAS really shored up the rear of the Ex.
I guess you and I are lucky ones that our Ex's really don't exhibit much of the rear steer others complain about...but I am 100% satisfied with the improvements in all aspects of handling on the Ex. Having a stouter rear suspension is really a big improvement when you tow heavier like we do...I know you will be happy when you add the RAS.
On the oil...you're cool...following the manual is what you need to do...I didn't realize that Ford changed the recommended viscosity...that's all.
So your towing experiences have been good...GREAT!...glad to hear it.
Yeah I had surgery mid-December. Small complications put me in the hospital for ~18days vs the expected 3...but all is good.
I'm gonna start back to work 1/2 days next Monday...so while I'm a little sore (a 10" up/down abdominal incision with 40-45 staples will do that to ya! LOL)...I've been going stir crazy being home...THANKS FOR ASKING and for the PRAYERS!...they are always appreciated!

one of those small complications put me down for a year once, and i was told i would never walk without some kind of aid...
heck, when i was young i needed some kind of aid to walk every saturday night... but that was part of the plan back then...
somehow they were wrong about that to... and i refused to settle for that... things are ok now all things considered...
