We have a 1989 F150 4.9 with dual fuel tanks giving us some problems. It all started a few years ago when the pump in the front tank went out, my dad replaced it with a new pump but it went out after just two weeks, so he put another in lasted two days, instead of replacing it a third time he just switched it to the rear tank and forgot about it, now every once and a while you’ve got to siphon the fuel out of the front tank or it will overflow, the fuel gauge quit working, and the rear pump is starting to wine. I would like to get the front tank working but don’t know where to start. Hate to just replace the pump to find out if it will solve all the problems. Any advise would be great.
There is a ck valve that stops the gas from filling up the front one. That will need to be replaced. Do a search on front tank filling up from rear. Its a common problem.
