I currently have a superchips 1704 tuner. Can anyone tell me what advantages may exist by changing to a newer tuner? I've had this for a few years on my 2004 F350. I've seen that the SCT tuners seem the most popular.
I have the superchips 1704 in the company truck and have the SCT with Spartan custome tunes in my personal truck (exact same trucks). Generally the power and MPG is very similar from superchips "canned 3 tunes" to similar SCT custom tunes.
Where the SCT really outperforms the superchips is far more flexibility with the custom tunes tailered to your liking giving you far more options and opertunity to adapt to future modifications. (IE, turning off the EGR, bigger injectors, tire size changing, different turbo, tranny shift points adjusts, etc, and etc.) in liue of common general tunes offered by the superchips.
The serious draw back of the superchips has to SCT with custom tunes is the shifting which is far superior with the SCT; which inspires confidence that appears heathier for the transmission which should mean better durability.
The superchips is good but the SCT with custom tunes is far better in my opinion. If I had to do it again I would only purchase SCT with custom tunes from a reputable company for all of our PSD's.
Thanks for the insights. I do have a level kit with 35's now and I'd like to be able to adjust the speedo and shift points to account for those changes. I may go forward with the SCT and see how that works.
Thanks!
I didn't know that you can change gear size and tire size to adjust the speedo. Is that with a SCT II/III? I beleive it is an option with Livewire but not the other two. If that is not the case where in the tuner do you do this(SCT II/III)? Or is that something that a person that customizes the tune needs to do?

The SCT has options to adjust for differential ratio and tire revolutions (if they are enabled) to allow the transmission to shift properly. It will NOT correct your speedometer. Speedometer must be corrected in the ABS module either by the dealership (limited) or by an A/M product like the truespeed.
i found out that my truck speedometer could not be corrected... and the guy who posted last is right you need a correction device or have the abs module flashed to get the correct speed to show.
Speed wizard truspeed jet accuspeed
the dealer ship can do it for up to 34.5" tires, but its a pay for every time deal.
Also you are limited to tire size, I know the speed wizard will do 44" tires and by request / custom it can do up to much more
I purchased the superlift true speed to adjsust my speedo.
Reason I opted for this in lieu of going to the dealer is I have two sets of slightly differnet size tires (summer and winter) and will likley buy future tires with slightly different sizes as all makes are not alike thus allowing me full flexibility to perfectly calibrate the speedo.
true speed does have a switch that can switch between two tire sets with the push of a toggle switch
I am only really familiar with the speed wiz.
I just did not like that there are mechanical components that are part of the correction circuitry on the other ones.
mechanical components seem to always fail on me.
The speed wiz - that I use can be re-set up within 1 minute and there are NO mechanical components in the correction circuit. Each one has their pluses and minuses - tru speed has been around for ever, provides a easy way to set up for summer winter tires. I figure if I just spent 30 minutes rotating tires, maybe more I can spend the extra 1 minute and set up the speedo correction value on the wizard. - The back of the manual has a reference section to do just that.
Jet accuspeed is slightly cheaper and so is speed wiz, speed wiz provides a user interface.
