goofy acting starter ????

Hi all, I posted a message previously about starter/ignition problem in my 1999 f150, no replies as of yet. Anyone have an idea why my starter will kick in after the truck is running? dont know what to try next, mabye the steering harness itself? replaced the sonenoid and still does this, last time it ran fine for about an hour then started the same thing again. any suggestions?? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum

You mean it engages by itself while it is running?

If so, it could possibly be a GEM module problem.

yep it engages while its already running, had to disconnect the battery to stop it. It even tried to engage when the key was out of the ignition ( that was after running it and it tried kicking in again i turned it off, that wasn't enough!) Truck has been idle for over a year I replaced the battery then. Will check into the GEM module or if you have any other ideas please let me know. Thanks for the input.

check all your wiring down at the starter and work your way up. Sounds like you might have had a mouse or something chew up some wiring and you have a short for some reason or other. If it engages without the key on, that sounds like a short to me.
