Mpg......

I have a 2004 f250 6.0 auto that I am driving around because I cannot drive my standard truck in my sig at this time. This is normally my parents truck and they baby it all the time. I filled it up the other day and reset the trip meter and wanted to see what it is getting lately. I put 100 miles on 1/4 tank of fuel. ok its a 38 gallon tank so thats about 10mpg. . This is both highway and city driving.

I have a new air and the 2 fuel filters all new in it. I did the zoodad mod and gutted the cat. It seems that everytime my dad took it in the dealership they put a new flash in it. The recent "no buzzing" flash really cut down on power. New diprocol gauges are sitting in the shop because I cannot put them in at this time. Ok so....... I want SCT tuning but dont exactly have the money for it at this time. What do you recomend I do for better MPG?

I have 70psi in the tires and try to keep the rpms under 2000 in town. This $100 not even filling the tank up all the way is killing me lol

Are you using and diesel kleen or fuel additive? Helped me a little. I wouldnt expect a 2 mpg gain but it helps a little. I use the white bottle in the winter and the grey in summer. Ask the dealer who flashed the truck to put the buzz flash back in. The worst he can do is say no. IMO

Oh how familiar! Same deal here 04/250/6.0/4x4/crew cab/sb - since the reflash mpg is horrible. I talked to the mechanic the other day and he told me there's really nothing you can do. even the disconnecting the batteries and letting the computer relearn will not erase the last flash and it'll eventually catch up to itself. I'm seriously thinking about doing a tune on mine as I'm not sure what else I can do.

I'll have to pick up the diesel kleen - worth a try as I've never used an additive yet.

if you have never used an additive I would throw a whole bottle in(smaller bottle) and then use according to directions! good luck

You can tell a difference with the Diesel Kleen. Plus keeping the fuel from gelling and lubricating the injectors is always a plus.

There is another way to tell a difference when using the diesel kleen. Running the hybrid tune on a tank w/out dk will blow black smoke pretty good. With the dk in the tank, it just about cuts that in half so i guess it must be doing something.

Hello all,
I was just working on some numbers for my income taxes and I thought these might be interesting.

2007:

Total Miles :21334
Total Gallons fuel:2233.15
Average MPG: 9.55
Average speed 24.42 mph
Best Mpg:12.75
(I don't know how or why but I could not get better than 11.6 any other time!!)
Worst Mpg:6.25 (Valentines snowstorm '07)

Thanks for the replys but this truck not 2-3 months ago was getting 15 in town and 18 highway. I run the white bottle of dk every now and then but not every tank. The dealer will not, or cannot, flash with older flashes I asked my tech. I think my next purchase will be an sct but what is this talk of the newer flashes not responding well to the sct?

MY 04 truck was reflashed in early january 08 and so far I am pleased. The mileage has stabilized at 14 when towing my light trailer and 17.5 when not, turbo lag is down and the truck seems to have more power. I do a mix of highway and city driving. I was using power service in the silver bottle for a while and coked up an EGR valve. I do know know if the PS is what caused the EGR to crap out. My truck always got bad mileage in the winter, seems as though this flash has corrected this. I could not tell you which flash was put in theres no sticker or marking. I would say 10 mpg is not normal unless you got 455,s in the differential and tow all the time. I say theres something wrong with it.

This trucks last flash was the one following the buzz flash. It did help with the hard to start issue but power and mpg seemed to go down. Are there newer flashes out?

remember to fill to the rim when calculating MPG's. Usually you can squeez about another 5 gallons in there, which could throw off your calculations if you are basing em on total gallons your tank holds
