I bought an 86 f250. Just put a 93 7.3 non turbo in it. Pulled a trailer with a mini-van on it today and the engine/trans made a loud resonating vibration when climbing hills. Never heard/felt it before I had it loaded down. Could it be the 2 piece drive shaft or would it most likely be in the torque converter? Or am I clueless?
Having the load on the back could be changing the driveline angle to create the vibration. Could also be a bad carrier bearing is letting the shaft move under a load. Does it happen under hard acceleration too?
Thanks for the replies. I drove it today and I am starting to hear/feel the vibration without a load. It will do it under hard acceleration.
Sycostang67, are you thinking carrier bearing?
This truck has been parked for a number of years evidently. King pins are stiff, brakes frozen when I got it etc... I've put around 1000 miles on it and things are beginning to happen like this.
Nothing beats getting under there and shaking stuff around to see if there is play or slop in a u-joint, carrier bearing, rearend yoke loose, etc. It's best to block the wheels and put the driveline in neutral to take the strain off of it so you can check it.
