fun with mechanics

just recently purchased a 2004 E-350 6.0; back in august. its been in the shop, once, for the vacuum pump/brake booster and one of the lines. only had the oil changed once before, then at about 4000mi later took it in for the normal wheel rotation balance etc and oil change. tech found metal shavings in the oil and oil filter. a little unerved, i took it too an actual diesel shop for a look-see. guy said that i had a "colapsing tubro return tube". repaired that saying that the shavings had something to do with the previous vacuum repair. too wrap this up; i HAD to drive it a few states over for family matters. i noticed that the turbo would intermittingly pulse or it sounded like it would cut on and off while in say 3rd gear in town. it didnt do that on the highway. on the way back it started do this at highway speed. then at a rest stop, i was accelerating thru a parking lot at low rpm and low speed in 2nd or 3rd gear, and it tried to stall on me. i let off the accelerator. waited a sec then accelerated up and it was fine. right before getting on the highway the turbo like stoped and the whole engine shook. a little angry, i just kicked it and everything started working fine and the problem hasnt occured since. no smoke, no hesitation. gonna take it to the same place in the morning. for some reason i dont really trust the shop, but they touched it last, so they're gonna fix it. and they are the only place i can find close to me. searched round the forum trying to find info, but i have never expierenced symptoms like this. the only other diesel i've ever owned was a 6x6 gator. which by the way, everyone needs in the ol toy box. thanks in advance, this place is loaded with knowledgeable folks
