remote start question

2002 F250 7.3 with dealer installed code alarm w/remote start. Recently my mileage has gotten worse and then she started smoking pretty good at start up when cold. The truck starts fine with remote but then tries to restart when still running. I removed the drivers side valve cover because I got bad readings on my 2 front gp connectors and discovered a loose wiring harness. Snapped it back in and now no smoke/starting problems but still have the same problems with remote start and mileage. There is a wire tapped into the outside wiring harness on that side that I am guessing is used to tell if the engine is running. The truck has 107000 miles on it. I am wondering if you guys think I should replace the under valve cover wiring harness on that side because it seems that the remote start and mileage might both be effected by a harness going bad.

They might be related. Do you have a meter that you could use to test continuity through the connection to see that it's ok? Not 100% positive that they're related though.

The attempted starts while already running seems like a bad wire for the RPM sensor. I would contact code alarm or better yet, get the dealer to find out what is wrong with it. If they installed it for you when you bought it, they should warranty it even if it is a 2002. Code alarm does not take kindly to bad installs of their products.
