can some tell me if there is a difference in the EARLY 460 and a 390 flywheel I have what i was told is a 460 flywheel(early one,no weight) and there is NO casting numbers or date code
There were no 460 flywheels until the 80's.There were 429 car flywheels. There isn't any difference in a 390/429,flywheel they used the same clutch and were balanced the same.A 360 flywheel uses a smaller clutch than a 390 so they are a little different.

I had one that had the numbers on it off of a car 429 and it was the same as a 390.My'79 has a car bellhousing on it with a 390 flywheel and the starter works. If the 390 flywheel was smaller I wouldn't think that the starter would enguage the starter ring.
