A few months ago there was a post about where to mount larger than factory spare tires. Many of you said that you can mount your 33's or 35's in the factory location. I have an early 1999 model and there is just no room up there for anything larger than the factory spare. For the last few years my 33" BFG was just laying in the bed.
Fabtech makes 2 different types of mounts, an angle mount and a straight mount, the angle mount mounts to the floor of the bed but I didn't want to use up that much space in the bed for the spare so I got the straight mount and had a local welder whip me up a mounting bracket that mounts to the bed using the same bolt holes as the factory tie down hook because I didn't want to drill new holes in the bed.
Anyway.. here are a couple of pics. If this were software this would be release 1.0. There are a couple of tweeks that still need to be done and once everything fits like I want it to I will get the bracket LineX'd, Rhino Lined or powder coated.
so it's only welded on the bottom? I guess the tire itself keeps the mount from vibrating too much offroad, but over time.....I bet it will weaken the bottom weld. After that is Line-X'd it will look great! I'm still looking for other options besides my Fabtech angled BED HOG haha
