My stock 302 with a motorcraft 2100 two barrel is driving me crazy! It intermitently idles roughly and then dies. Today after it died in the driveway, I disconnected the fuel line into the carb and it sprayed a lot of presurrized fuel all over my engine. Way more presure than I've ever experienced with a mech pump/ carb engine.
The fuel filters (two of them) are new. Is this a float valve issue? The fuel pump is also new stock unit from Napa.
The only way to really see what kind of pressure you have is put a gauge on it. You should see no more than about 7 PSI max. That pump probably puts out in the 5-7 PSI range.
Could indeed be an intermittently sticking float valve...I would remove the top of the carb and check it, might be time for a little carb work.
When you actuate the throttle does the Accelerator pump squits fuel? in so I would not think it's an carb problem. My need to check you idle air/fuel adjustment.
Are you getting fire. It's possiable the spark control box is going out.
What is the spark control box? I just bought a 71 sport custom and put a rebuild from ebay on today--a 2100 2 bbl-----I would think the carb needs a rebuild. thanks
All depends if yours had been updated to electronic ignition & dist. Most of the time mounted on the passenger side inner finder. Other wise it could be a coil going bad, if you have fuel. Next time it happen, check to see if you have spark by pulling a plug wire at the distributer while you turn it over.
You could also have water in the gas. Open the top and see if you see any water in the bowl.
N.D. sounds like you stepped on it 1 or twice!! LOL bILL
Gee whiz Bill...how did'ja know that?
When one has 1 or more Basset Hounds, ya also gotta watch where you step!
Here, it's quadruple trouble.
Walking 'round the house at night with the lights off is not too smart.

Thanks fellas, I bought the carb rebuild kit today. There was fuel in the float bowl and the accelerator pump seems fine, good strong squirt. Even if it's not a carb problem, I'm sure it could use a cleaning and freshening up.
The possible coil problem is interesting though. I put one of those electronic ignition Pertronix kits on it a couple of months back. But kept the stock old slightly leaky coil. What are the signs of a coil starting to go out?
Those Pertronix units have know to go bad. There are quite a few cases on this forum. Failures within 90 days seam to be common. From what I have read if they make it past the 1 yr the seam to last for ever.
