Can anyone tell me what made up 1977 460 Police Interceptor engine?
I have an opportunity to buy one and I'm curious what these beasts came with for compression, heads, cam etc. Being from around the time of the oil embargo I'm wodering if this motor is just a dog?
I don't think any 460 P.I. could be considered a "dog",although 1977 wasn't the greatest year for powerful engines via the factory.It looks like on '75-'78 460 P.I. engines the valve diameter sizes were 2.08" intake/ 1.66" exhaust,and combustion chamber volume was 96.2cc.The camshaft specs were 253 degrees(gross) intake/278 degrees(gross) exhaust,and .443" lift intake/ .486" lift exhaust.Compression ratio is listed as being 8.0:1.The original engine digit code(found on the vehicle's VIN)for a 460 P.I. would be 'C'.Hope this info. helps.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Apr-02 AT 02:25 AM (EST)]The cam timing was also supposed to be straight up 0 on these instead of the 8 dergree's retard built into the standard timing set.
I use to have a 76 460 out of a Lincoln in my bronco and it ran 16's at the track!
That blew up and I was able to get a 460 Interceptor, dropped that in there and it ran low 15's in my Big Bronco!
