Engine Upgrade

All,

I have a stock '90 F-350 Crew Cab 4 x 4. It has a Dana 60 with 3:54 up fron and Sterling 3:55 in the rear. I plan on changing the factory E4OD with one from Dr. Evil and changing the back half of the transfer case for a Gear Vendors Over/Underdrive. I have a stock 460 FI. I have problems pulling my 40ft travel trailer (9,800lbs). I want to build the motor for pulling/towing (torque). What would be a good, and hopefully not too costly, rebuild for the engine? I want to end up with around 350-375hp and 500-525ft/lbs of torque. I already have in mind a Banks 3" exhaust with headers. What motor mods do I need to do to accomplish these numbers? Thanks.

Bob

Build a 545 stroker with a cam like Comp Cams Extreme Energy cams and go bigger than you would with a 460. I also used aluminum heads on my build but it's not nescessary if the budget won't support it. I ended up with 500 hp at 4,000 rpm and 600 + ftlbs of torque from 2,000 thru 4,000 rpm.

3.55s are pretty tall gears for pulling nearly 10k# trailer...if your looking to build a pulling rig...at least 4.10s - 4.30 even better - then you can leave the engine near stock - cant do much with an efi 460 anyway -

I have a '96 f-350 with 3.55s and 5 speed....holds it own pulling 7000# trailer but my '94 with 4.30s and c6 does it easier......

For everyday driving the 3.55s are great though - 70 mph and 2000 rpm - the other truck - well thats another story -
