A machine shop will charge upwards of $20 each broken bolt. I personally would try to find a good used motor, at a fraction of the price of a rebuild. Most of the time you get lucky and get a good motor, if you are a wise shopper.
I agree with masterbeavis find a good used one. I would look for a wreck or a rustbucket or a passenger car with the same motor. I have done it a couple of times at auctions, nobody wants those old 4 door cars. I've paid 350 then drove them home pulled motor and gotten 300 in scrap for the rest. Plus if you replace the heads, it will run great for a while, then you will blow out your bottom end (rings). Good Luck Evan
find a better shop that will doe the job right. if its just the studs, check another garage, and get them removed. no need to change a motor for that. when i was back up north, garages repaired/ replaced studs, i had exhaust done on my mid size ranger and they didn't want to replace the headers. they were an exhaust shop. go figure.
