not impressed with SCT

For Christmas I got a SCT livewire, So far I am not impressed. The shifts are no firmer then stock, even when I turn it to 20%. On street level the power is not improved over my Edge on level 2, and until it warms up anything over quarter throttle it sputters. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I know that a custom tune will be an improvement, But I though the stock tunes would be better than the stock flash. Also I have lost about 2mpg in normal driving.

I don't have a tuner yet myself, but when I get one I will be getting and SCT. I have heard that the box tunes for the SCT really bite the big one. From what I have read and can tell by people's results, custom tunes with the SCT is the only way to go. That is what I love about the idea of the SCT anyway. They only programmer that I know of anyway that you can get custom tunes for. That is my sole reason for getting one. Just my $.02.

you aren't doing anything wrong..........well other than not running custom tunes. I doubt you can compare canned tunes to custom tunes. only then will you be impressed.

So I am looking for a tune that will,

Improve mileage- this is the most important

Some increase in power, but I do not tow, so that is not a issue.

Give a firm shift

Start when cold like stock, with no sputtering,

And not cost allot.

Wife is going to make me sale some computer equipment first to pay for it, so If anyone is looking to trade that also works!!

I was doing some home work on getting an SCT tunner for my V10 gasser, it seems even after you buy a tuner you can buy a custom tune later on, and recieve it via email... it was 45 bucks for the gasser tunner not sure how much it would be for the diseal but it must be the same.

the answers to most of your questions are right here in your paragraph.
1. SCT-XCAL is the one to get, no one is bragging about livewire
2. Canned tunes-get custom tuning-no one is bragging about canned tunes
3. Until it warms you shouldn't be trying to get on it anyway, but even edge will
not add power until the engine temp is to 160

i didnt notice if your truck/motor was in your sig, but if it's a 6.0 i would say to call one of the more reputable SCT tuners (Matt/SPARTAN, eric/ID eg.)with your strategy and your goals as well as all the info on your truck, what mods etc... trust me there is a night/day difference between running bottom end stuff like edge, bullydog ,livewire w/canned, etc type products and actually running a truck that has been PROPERLY tuned w/an XCALII by someone who writes tunes for many, many satisfied customers who all started out in the exact position you are in now.
