wiring digram for ignition switch
Went back this morning and guy kept telling me the wiring doesn't match his schematic, truck must have been rewired after a wreck. A WRECK?????
Then the installer suggested I just walk out and stick the key in and turn it to on and the fan would run.
I started cussing and explained to him if I did that I would ##@! start
^$##! the damn *&(^%@###!! truck while I was there.
The store manager suggested I calm down.
We are down to this. I need a schematic for my ignition switch. Specifically I need to know the wiring color to get power to the heater fan.
The " schematic" the installer is trying to use, is just a list, and none of the colors match up to anything in my truck.
His list is
12 volts yellow
starter red/lt blue
ignition red/lt green
accessory gray/ yellow

Well that was supposed to be a link to your year/model truck but I guess that site doesn't work that way.
Follow the "Vehicle wiring diagrams" link at the top left of the screen to your year/model.
Everything shows it’s a Grey-yellow wire, but like a said the instructions for the starter, if followed would show exactly what each wire does when probed regardless of what color they are replaced or not.
Must be a lazy and or dumb installer you had

If you find a small gauge wire that acts the same way when probed, that's not the one.
Should be a 10 gauge or larger wire.

Bull dog, and Bill, and danr1, and best buy all think it should be a gray/yellow wire.
The installer thinks I don't have a gray/yellow wire.
I got a real bad headache, and I'm getting seriously pissed. I'll pull the column down and check the switch myself tomorrow or Sunday.
Thanks again Frank

A few years ago I had a remote start put in my car. Great starter/alarm.
Terrible install, constant problems. Take it back repeatedly and shop says "loose connection".
They always work on it right away, and always get it going and never charge me, but that ain't something I want to repeat. So I go the Best Buy. Big place several installers, nice shop, and they can't even get the thing installed.
Unfortunately, I think my experience is not real unusual. It seems like now days if it ain't plug and play we are out of luck.
Oh well, not sure how this is going to work out, but I did pay for it with American Express. Should not be a problem to get my money back if it doesn't get fixed, but I still won't have a remote.

He "thinks" or "knows" you don't have a gray/yellow wire?
But regardless if he knows or not I've installed several remote starters and the colors are not always right, one may be a different color from what the chart says it will be and its no big deal.
The instructions for the remote starter tell exactly how to probe and test each wire to insure it is the right one by how it acts when the key is turned to the different positions.
The kit includes a tester for doing this testing and are very handy. I save em for other uses. The one I like has a red and green light and one or the other lights up depending on what the wire does IE,12v positive lights the green bulb, 12v negative lights the red one.
Remote starters are very easy to install, even easier with the older cars/trucks that do not have coded keys or alarm systems.
But even if they do the instructions show how to disable the alarm or by pass the coded key to start the car via remote. Doing so does not in any way disable either security measure from working like its designed.
Install one yourself once and you’ll see how easy it is and you’ll never let some idiot working at BB under your dash again!
That's what I could see, plus what I could not see, plus the fact that the blower didn't work and the installer suggested I just walk out and put the key in the ignition and turn it on to get the blower running. Explained all this to Best Buy Manager, and he kind of winced when I got to the part about putting the key in. Then he wanted to see the wiring under the hood. He looked about 30 seconds and said we will give you a full refund, This is not professional work.
They pulled the system and gave me a full refund. I thanked them and made a resolution to not have them doing automotive install again.
Thanks again for the help.
Frank
