New camshaft?

91' F150 5.0, long headers & dual 2.25 exhaust, MAF conversion, 4.10 axles, MSD ignition. The rest is stock, will eventually port and polish heads, switch to electric fan, and maybe get new pistons for more CR.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a cam that will help out with low to mid range torque, and still have enough clearance on the vavle lift. I'm assuming it's a Hydraulic roller stock so i shouldn't need much extra right? pushrods, lifters, timing chain, etc.....

31-255-5 comp cam. this is a speed density friendly cam. you should repalce the valve springs on the heads but i dont think its mandatory. your motor is a flat tappet setup. the trucks didnt get roller cam motors till i think 92 or 93

Besides lifters, pushrods, timing group, etc... What would it take to make it a roller. It is worth it with the MAF isn't it.

First you need to determine if you have a roller motor or not, there were some roller motors in the early '90s with a base roller cam.. basically a roller version of the crappy little flat tappet cam. Pull out a pushrod and measure it, that will tell you what you have.
You can run more agressive cams with the MAF conversion, but on a 5.0 in a truck you really should not, it'll just destroy what little low rpm power the motor has. The cam suggested is a good candidate if you have a flat tappet motor, and converting to a roller does little but empty your wallet, on the street there isn't much difference in performance all things being equal. How much would a conversion cost? Probably as much as $600 plus the $300 cam, though you can get away much cheaper if you source used mustang lifters, pushrods, and spider assembly.

CCA-K31-230-3, this is the whole kit with the closest specs that i could find. on summit anyways. If it is a flat tappet, this should work well then eh? Though i'm not sure about the lobe separation, and it being non-computer compatible. thanx

Call Jay Allen (www.camshaftinnovations.com) or Ed Curtis (www.FlowtechInduction.com).

You'll pay the same price, but your cam will be setup for YOUR truck to work with your induction system. Not a generalized group of SBF motors.

Another less expensive option is grab the Melling Performance catalog and look up some of the cams for the Ford 5.0. I found the cams for the 351W and the OEM Lightning cam from them pretty cheap (~$80) and they can ordered from Auto Zone. Just a thought.....
