Fuel tank sizes?

Was the Aerostar offered with an optional larger or "extended range" fuel tank?

My van has what I expect is the standard 20 US gallon (75 liter) gas tank. I suspect the fuel pump may be failing, and if I have to drop the tank, I would like to install a larger tank if one is available.

Cheers,
Eric

I thint there is no room for bigger tank under a van. Second tank is possible, but one more fuel sender, electric valves... ore link line form additional tankn to maine under the drive shaft, usually in tranny crossmember.

It's a 21 gal tank (if a newer model) 17 gal tank for the older models. What year do you have?

As for increasing the size, why would you? The more fuel you haul (weight) the worse millage you get. I guess you could look into getting a plastic one from JC whitney, I think they sell bigger tanks for the Aero, I know they do for the Bronco/Ranger.

The tanks on my 90 and 91 vans are both plastic, and 21 gallon capacity.

It's a 95 3.0L RWD. I have never had an owner's manual, so I always assumed it was a 75 liter tank, but it is obviously the 21 gal (79 liter) tank.

I would only be interested in extra capacity for extra range, but only if easy & relatively cheap (used tank).

GM offered a HUGE tank in the AWD Astro vans, I was wondering if Ford may have also. Obviously not. Thanks for the info.

Cheers,
Eric
