Dana 44?

Hey Guys, Is a Dodge ram, probably a 99 with a Dana 44 up front the same as a straight axle 44 found in an older 150 or bronco the same? Anyone Fimilar with the way the dodge front axle is set up? What spline axle and wutnot?

Not for sure but as long as it has the diff on the left side of the axle and has a 5.5" on 5 bolt pattern it would be close, but I think dodge used a different radius arm style from the 78-79 ford which was similar for all 1/2 ton fords from ~78 to 96.

I saw a picture where it looks like the coil spring mounts on the spindle, the reason why i brought this up is because someone said that the dana 44 is junk. He has it in his dodge and he says it eats axle seals. It doesnt even look like a 44 to me.

I think most of the Dogde 4x4 have the style front axles that are always engaged with the wheels. If the axle housing is bent, or a bad bearing is in the diff or the wheel then you could eat seals without fail.
