I was at the local International dealership the other day getting some filters and thought about the coolant additive I used to have to add to my old 7.3L. So I bought a bottle of DCA4 from them. This is the additive primarily added to keep the coolant from pitting the liners. If I recall correctly, my 7.3 called for this type of additive once a year, I think.
Well, after looking through my manual, I can't find any mention of this anywhere for my 6.0. All I saw was the call for changing out the fluid at 150,000 miles. My 6.0 is an '05 with 38,000 miles. I've never done anything to the coolant except had the cheap sticker added to the overflow reservoir from the recall.
Do you add anything to the coolant for 6.0s? If it's not necessary, can I add this and will it help? If I could (or should) add some, how much additive is typically called for with the 6.0's radiator size?
Is my understanding that adding it will actually degrade your coolant; possibly leading to the silicates in the Gold coolant dropping out of suspension and forming a sludge. So in summary, return and get your money back.
